How to get here

About food, dining and rituals in art and life. Become part of a happening. Come to the gallery to share your time and joy.

Food and drink count among the basic human needs, and together with sleep form the base of the pyramid of human needs.

An observant visitor to the gallery might be surprised to spot more people in the café (which is a natural part of most of these institutions) than in the actual exhibition rooms. This is no coincidence, taking into account the fact that the satisfaction of spiritual needs is less important than the basic need for food and drink. But what if a gallery café turns into an autonomous work of art? Can visitors then satisfy the needs of both body and spirit?

The PLATO Café is part of the first exhibition cycle, Temporary Structures 1, when we created the functional amenities in the former Bauhaus together with artists. The café design is by the Polish visual artist Dominika Olszowy.

Like with all PLATO educational programmes, in this one we focus on a moment of surprise, exploration of limits, fun and the field of contemporary art. The linking attribute of this programme will be food and dining. We will think about it and we will enjoy it. A feast in the gallery? Can you combine food and art? Can we find a connection through food? Will we feed our stomachs, spirit and hearts at the same time?
