How does copyright function in art, and when can it be used? How to structure licence contracts and not to interfere in the rights of other artists? Lecture and discussion with the lawyer Iva Javorská.

The main objective of the lecture by the lawyer Iva Javorská is to demonstrate that copyright is on the side of artists and enables them to establish respectful relations with their clients. Copyright is a tool which offsets the perceived dominance of an institution or business by the power of the artist’s unique status. However, to make a tool work, you should know how to handle it.

Iva Javorská studied law at the Law Faculty of Charles University, Prague and at Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne University in Paris; in 2017 she joined the programme “Navigating Today’s Artworld” of the Sotheby’s Institute of Art. In her legal practice she specializes in copyright laws, intellectual property and business law. Since 2015 she has lectured on copyright law at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague. She is a member of the Fair Art non-profit organisation.
