Meet actor, writer, and host Bořek Slezáček. We’ve invited him over to get his take on our current exhibition and the gallery building itself.

Bořek Slezáček (*1967) comes from Ostrava, where he also earned an engineering degree in economics at the Technical University. Since the late 1980s, he has moved across various cultural fields—music, theatre, television, and literature. In recent years, he has focused primarily on acting and writing.

Among other works, he is the author of the short story collection Kéž bys tu byla (Wish You Were Here). Together with David Shorf, he co-hosts the podcast Med a peří (Honey and Feathers), in which they explore everyday and societal topics—from relationships and media to culture, politics, and their own life experiences—from personal and often distinct perspectives. Both his professional and personal journey are tied to the transformation of the environment in which he grew up, as well as to repeated returns to Ostrava and his own past.

When you are a guest, you see things differently than those who are at home here. As part of PLATO’s 10th-anniversary celebrations, we are introducing a range of new programme formats this year. One of them is a series of gatherings and discussions exploring not only artworks, but also personal experience, alternative perspectives, and distinct ways of reading exhibitions. We are curious to know what a contemporary art gallery—or PLATO specifically—means to people with backgrounds or expertise outside the visual arts.
