In an installation Petr Bosák, Robert Jansa, and Adam Macháček reveal the conceptual, technological, and material processes that go into creating a book that will be published by Utopia libri during the exhibition’s run.
Here a printing press takes on the role of a performative environment in which the distinct tools of polygraphy are exhibited, however, without any ostentation, because they have never been emphasized until now. The existing work of this group of graphic designers thus naturally––from the more general principles and environment of applied design––results in a unique exhibition project. The artists accent utopia as an instrument of imagination that can not only bring history to life but also motivate collective thinking outside of existing structures.
The 20YY Designers graphic studio, founded in 2011 by Sébastien Bohner, Petr Bosák, Robert Jansa, and Adam Macháček, concentrates on the conceptual, visual, and processual crossing of borders that come in different forms, from the idealistic to the pragmatic, from the urgent to the sensitive. The designers emphasize the necessity of cultural expression and the reflection of content in the context of the original process of their creation. The projects developed by 20YY Designers include graphic designs for books, visual identities (ResisTerra, Dům kultury a únavy, Akademie výtvarných umění v Praze), and exhibitions. They have also closely collaborated with Karel Císař, Jiří Skála, and Kateřina Šedá. Since 2021 they have been working with Utopia libri publishers (Jestli mám zemřít, ať je to příběh; Bílí, ale ne tak docela; Autobiografie chobotnice).
