Opera by František Chaloupka for two boys and four saxophones. Stage design by Panáčik. Organized by the festival Hudební současnost.

Cottage in Jezerní kotlina (Chata v Jezerní kotlině)

The libretto is inspired by the novel of the same name by Jaroslav Foglar.

Composer: František Chaloupka
Stage design: Panáčik
Performers: two boys and Dunami Ensemble (Brno)

The determining moment of the 40-minute opera for two boys and four saxophones is the author’s approach to symmetry and contrast. The contrast is expressed both in the music, where expressive, minimalist rhythmic parts are followed by long timbre „smudges“, and on the stage.

František Chaloupka (1981) composes mainly instrumental music and scores for classical instruments, chamber and symphony orchestras, operas and multimedia works. He is also sought out as an orchestrator, producer and guitar player. After finishing his studies of composition at the Janáček Conservatory in Ostrava he went on to study a degree in Composition in the class of Martin Smolka at Janáček Academy of Music and Performing Arts in Brno where he has finished his PhD. in composition (2014). His pieces were commissioned and performed by internationally renowned musicians and ensembles, e.g. New Century Players Los Angeles, Ensemble Modern & Péter Eötvös, ONO/Ostrava New Orchestra, Prague Modern, International Ensemble Modern Academy (IEMA), BERG Orchestra, Trio Accanto, Aleph Gitarrenquartett, South Czech Philharmonic, Hradec Králové Philharmonic Orchestra, VENI Academy.

Organized by Hudební současnost festival.
