A second probe into the Ostrava art scene.
The group exhibition Ostrava to the End of the Line continues the series focusing on artists with strong bonds to the Ostrava region.
The specific shape of the local art world is viewed through the works of nine artists of different generations. This world, as well as those of the selected artists, can be both vivid and rigid, up-to-date and nostalgic. The works on display are diverse, some responding to a specific space and situation, others focused on their contents. In any case, the works are honest in nature, and therefore authentic.
The title of the exhibition Ostrava to the End of the Line evokes the principle of centripetal force; each city has its own cultural environment or background and the artists emerging from it tend to stay there. Whether this also applies to Ostrava is a question that the exhibition seemingly wishes to answer. In reality, though, it’s more important to try to get an insight into the diverse local artistic community, both cohesive and contentious, but always influenced by the context of the place. And it is the place, the city of Ostrava, which plays the main role here. This is what unites the works: a curse and a joy, a melancholic sigh and a gentle smile.
The exhibition is part of the series On Current Issues of Local Resources, concept: Marek Pokorný and Jakub Adamec.
