The history of the former abattoir site and its surroundings. An exceptional opening of the reconstructed building.

Reactivation, an almost forgotten term for conversions, is not just a possibility of preservation of dilapidating industrial sites, it also reflects discussions about different approaches with a different focus. In the case of the former Ostrava abattoir, the main thing is the vision, which has – thanks to the reactivation of the site – a real potential to transform its surroundings into a lively neighbourhood. This is why the exhibition, whose central display is the preserved slaughterhouse, will not present only the site’s genesis and conversion – designed by architect Robert Konieczny and his team – for gallery purposes, but also the future look of the location emerging from conceptual reflections of the City of Ostrava.
